A good holiday is rarely just about where you stay. It is about the feeling you get when you arrive, the excitement of a new place, the comfort of a familiar welcome and the little moments that make a trip worth remembering.
For decades, Berjaya Hotels & Resorts has been part of those moments for travellers in Malaysia and beyond. The brand has built a name around making every journey feel a little more special.
But behind the hotels, resorts and beautiful destinations is an even more interesting story: how a Malaysian hospitality brand grew from local roots into a name recognised around the world.
From Malaysia, With Hospitality

Berjaya’s wider corporate journey began in 1984, when Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun acquired a controlling stake in Berjaya Industrial Berhad. Over the years, the group diversified into numerous industries, with hospitality becoming one of its important pillars.
Today, Berjaya Hospitality Group manages and operates 34 hotels and resorts across 21 holiday destinations in eight countries, according to Berjaya Corporation. Its footprint spans Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, the United Kingdom, Japan and Iceland.
From City Lights to Island Life

One of Berjaya’s strengths is the sheer variety of experiences under its hospitality portfolio.
In Malaysia, travellers can move from the energetic streets of Kuala Lumpur to the beaches of Langkawi, Tioman and Redang. There are also city properties in Johor Bahru and Penang, as well as distinctive retreats such as Colmar Tropicale and The Chateau Spa & Wellness Resort in Berjaya Hills.
And then there is The Taaras Beach & Spa Resort, where the concept shifts towards barefoot luxury amid the crystal-clear waters of Redang.
The message is simple: whether the holiday calls for shopping, sunshine, adventure or simply doing absolutely nothing by the beach, there is a Berjaya destination for it.
Taking Malaysian Hospitality Abroad
The more interesting part of the story is what happened beyond Malaysia.
Berjaya’s hospitality presence now reaches destinations as diverse as London, Kyoto, Okinawa, Seychelles and Iceland. Its international portfolio includes Berjaya Eden Park London Hotel, Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino, Berjaya Praslin Resort and properties under Iceland Hotel Collection by Berjaya.
It is a reminder that hospitality does not need to lose its identity when it crosses borders. Instead, it can become a meeting point, bringing Malaysian warmth into very different cultures, landscapes and travel experiences.
More Than Just a Room
Behind the picturesque resorts and impressive destinations is a business that has also been adapting to a changing travel landscape.
For the financial year ended 30 June 2025, Berjaya Corporation reported that its Malaysian-based hotels and resorts recorded RM287.24 million in gross revenue, up 15.7% from the previous year. Occupancy also improved from 42.4% to 51.1%, helping the Malaysian hospitality segment turn around from a RM14.18 million loss before tax to a RM1.90 million profit before tax.
The numbers tell one story. The destinations tell another. Together, they show a hospitality business that has continued to evolve with the way people travel.
The Journey Continues

Perhaps the most inspiring part of Berjaya Hotels & Resorts is that its story is not built around one destination. It is built around the idea that homegrown brands can travel far without forgetting where they came from.
Berjaya has transformed hospitality into a passport of its own. And sometimes, the best way to see how far a Malaysian brand has come is simply to follow its trail, one check-in, one destination and one memorable stay at a time.
Berjaya Hotels & Resorts’ journey shows how Malaysian hospitality can find its place on the global stage.
