The next chapter of engineering will not be defined by bigger machines alone, but by smarter ones. At STOLZ Engineering, cooling tower technology sits at the heart of a business built around keeping critical infrastructure reliable, efficient and ready for the demands of modern industry.
Established in 2007 by Mark Tan, STOLZ has grown from a specialist engineering business into a regional cooling tower solutions provider operating across Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand as the official distributor of SPX Marley Cooling Towers. Their expertise spans cooling tower sales, consultation, problem analysis, engineering, installation, testing and commissioning, parts replacement, servicing and maintenance. Its product portfolio includes crossflow and counterflow evaporative cooling towers, as well as hybrid, closed-circuit and forced-draft fluid coolers.

STOLZ has installed more than 1,000 cooling towers across Singapore and the region, with projects spanning pharmaceutical, semiconductor, data centre, petrochemical and HVAC applications. Its project portfolio includes Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Sports Hub, Micron, Pfizer, Singapore Refining Company, Air Liquide, Sentosa Island, Woodlands Health Campus and Singapore General Hospital. The company also counts major names such as Lonza, GSK, Global Switch and Singtel among its portfolio.
Tan’s engineering journey laid the foundation for STOLZ’s specialist focus. After graduating from Nanyang Technological University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he began his career in HVAC design at Parsons Brinckerhoff Consultants. He then joined Taikisha Ltd as a Project Engineer, contributing to project work at AMD and Biopolis, before moving into chiller sales at York International.
He later led the sales team at Aircontrols before establishing STOLZ Engineering as a representative of Marley cooling towers. Drawing on experience across design, project delivery, equipment sales and business development, Tan has grown STOLZ into a regional business with more than 70 employees across Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Malaysia has become an important part of this regional infrastructure. STOLZ established its Malaysian presence as an installation facility, acquiring and renovating a freehold factory to strengthen its capacity to fulfil projects. Its Malaysia team comprises technicians, operations, administration, sales and applications personnel, while Thailand has a dedicated sales and applications team.
STOLZ is looking beyond established engineering practices. Its Smart Cooling Tower IoT Sustainability Framework progressively combines non-invasive sensors, operational data, cloud technology and AI to optimize cooling tower performance. Its retrofit-first approach focuses on improving existing infrastructure to be more sustainable assets rather than relying solely on large-scale equipment replacement. A proof of concept with Singapore Polytechnic demonstrated approximately up to 47.5% fan-energy savings potential. If we apply across the Stolz Installed Base Portfolio of more than 1,000 cooling towers, it indicates potential reduction of 68,200 tonnes CO₂ per year. STOLZ plans to deploy its IoT platform by Q1 2027, with subsequent scaling across its operations in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, and potentially into the broader ASEAN region.
This commitment to innovation has earned STOLZ the Impact Enterprise Excellence Award (SME) at the 2026 Sustainability Impact Awards, while STOLZ Engineering Malaysia received the Golden Bull Award 2026. The company also received the Enterprise 50 Award in 2020.
Beyond engineering, however, STOLZ is building another kind of infrastructure: people. Through its stakeholder programme, key employees are given the opportunity to become shareholders and participate in the company’s future. It reflects Tan’s long-term approach to succession, ownership and continuity, building a company that can continue creating value beyond its founder.
This philosophy extends to investment in operational excellence, IoT research, institutional partnerships and a more meritocratic, performance-driven culture. As STOLZ looks towards its next 20 years, its direction is centred on stronger regional presence, greater employee ownership, smarter technology and more sustainable cooling.
At STOLZ Engineering, the ambition is not simply to keep things cool, but to keep people, technology and innovation moving forward. As the company looks ahead, its journey is more than entering new markets or developing new technology; it is about creating a business where people, innovation and ownership move in the same direction. The goal is not simply to build bigger, but to build better, and build something that lasts.
