The World Gourmet Platform hosted a press conference today at the Sunway Resort Hotel, bringing together more than 180 prominent figures from the industry, media representatives, and notable guests including YBhg. Datin Rafidah Idris, Senior Director of the Domestic and Events Division of Tourism Malaysia. This grand occasion magnificently emphasized the essential role of culinary excellence in fostering tourism growth.
Dr. Peggy Chong, President of World Gourmet, shared her vision for the awards, stating, “Service quality and innovation are the pillars of our culinary and tourism industries. This year, we are proud to partner with the Malaysian Association of Skill Development Education (MASDEA) to introduce specialized training courses that will elevate the standards of service and food quality across the local culinary industry.”

YBhg. Datin Rafidah Idris also addressed the audience, highlighting Malaysia’s robust tourism performance. “Malaysia is on track to welcome 27.3 million international tourists this year, generating RM102.7 billion in tourism revenue. Notably, the food and beverage sector has contributed significantly, accounting for 14.9% of this revenue, or RM10.6 billion, making it one of the top three contributors to tourism receipts.”
She further emphasized the F&B sector’s potential, saying, “We see immense potential in the F&B sector to further enhance Malaysia’s tourism industry. Our collaboration with key stakeholders in this field will be instrumental in reaching our goal of 35.6 million foreign tourist arrivals and RM147.1 billion in receipts for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.”
In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the World Gourmet Platform will proudly launch the “Explore Nation” app. This innovative travel tool is crafted to enhance the experiences of both domestic and international visitors, offering a rich selection of features that promote the stunning tourism treasures of Malaysia.
During the momentous press conference, Dr. Peggy Chong proudly announced the appointment of Chef Bob Adnin, president of the Professional Culinary Association (Malaysia), as the ambassador for the 2024 World Top Gourmet Awards.

Since its inception, the World Top Gourmet Awards has honored over 400 culinary visionaries, with an additional 100 prestigious accolades set to be unveiled this year. The upcoming ceremony is set to be a lavish celebration welcoming over 1,000 guests, featuring celebrated chefs and culinary experts from around the world.
