With the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping over the world, many of us would find ourselves locked in at home, riddled with many concerns such as work, the health of family, friends or themselves, but mostly, free time. Stuck at home, what do you do with all this time in your hands?
Here are some ideas on how to use the most of your time for those who suddenly find themselves working from home.
Learn a New Skill
Being forced to stay home, there is ample time for you to pick up something useful such as a new skill to develop your business or career. Although, let’s face it. Just because one is stuck at home, does not instantly mean you can become an expert on a topic instantaneously.
You could, however, be able to beef up your skills on a level where you are sufficiently knowledgeable. You could pick up computer programming skills or read a book about a topic you are keen on or even circle back to an online course you haven’t gotten the chance to finish.
Career Planning
In the throbs of working, it is easy to focus on the task in hand and neglect long-term career planning. So, use this time to learn more about yourself and your career option!
With so much home bound time, you could start through reading a book about career planning or even testing out career options through the use of online job simulations. These will aid you in reflecting on your current skills, brainstorming skills you would like to develop, and envisioning where you would be in the future.
Revisit that Long Forgotten Project
Somewhere on your shelves or deep down your computer’s file system, there ought to be an unfinished project or manuscript that was put off long ago. If you have them, now is the time to dust off the files and complete it!
With the convenience of time on your hand, you could revive the project you were working on or a business that was put on hold due to your hectic schedule.
Promote your Work Online
Consider devoting a little time to a bit of marketing. Do you have a personal website that you haven’t been updating? Meaning to create a Youtube video about your business which hasn’t gotten way? Planning to set up an Instagram profile and learn what hashtags or stories are?
If so, now is the perfect time for you to wiggle your way out from underneath the rock you’ve been living under and find new platforms to connect and share your work!
You could even take it up to social media to interact and connect with other businessmen or leaders to gain ideas to boost your business further.
Lastly, Take Care of Yourself
Just cause you are advised to stay at home, does not mean you can neglect your health! Be it physically or mentally; it is important to prioritize your wellbeing, especially when you are cooped up all day.
You might not be able to exercise outdoors or have the necessary indoor workout equipment, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways you could be healthy in the comforts of your living room. You could do jumping jacks, meditate, or even practice yoga. Follow a workout dance routine online, or even videos on simple exercising movements.
Whatever it is that works for you, do what it takes to maintain a sound mind in a sound body!
